KEY EVENT: Summer preview. Multiple reports on the housing market and several updates on consumers' confidence about their financial and employment situations may give clues on whether the summer will be a hot one for the economy.

MONDAY: U.S. financial markets closed for Memorial Day.

TUESDAY: The closely watched Case-Shiller home prices report and the Federal Housing Finance Agency single-family price index, both for March. Also, consumer confidence for May from The Conference Board and durable goods orders for April from the Commerce Department. Earnings: AutoZone.

WEDNESDAY: Earnings from restaurant operator Cracker Barrel, apparel retailer Michael Kors and homebuilder Toll Brothers.

THURSDAY: The National Association of Realtors posts April pending home sales, an early indicator of closed sales of houses and condos a few months from now. Also, the Commerce Department issues its update on second-quarter GDP and the Labor Department reports on claims for jobless benefits for the week ended May 24. Earnings: Port Washington filtrations-systems provider Pall, Abercrombie & Fitch, Costco.

FRIDAY: Consumer sentiment in May from the University of Michigan. Also, April personal income and savings from the Commerce Department. Earnings: Ann Taylor owner Ann. -- PETER KING
