Cash attracting buyers, car dealer says
COLUMBIA, Md. - COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) — A Columbia Chevrolet dealer says most of the car owners trading in clunkers for cash are educated consumers who see the opportunity to get $4,500 for a $500 car.
Joe Wyatt, sales manager for Miller Brothers Chevrolet, said Wednesday that his dealership has had a few customers concerned about a more fuel-efficient car. But for most, he said, "it's the cash."
Miller Brothers has been busy, he said, with customers rushing in during the program's first three days. Wyatt said even customers who found out they didn't have a clunker bought a car at Miller Brothers.
But dealers are still burdened by too much paperwork and feelings of uncertainty about receiving the federal funds, Wyatt said.
