OLD BRIDGE - Three of five men convicted in the fatal beating of an Old Bridge man were sentenced today.

Divyendu Sinha, 49, was beaten to death in 2010 by the group. All five charged were teens at the time.

Cash Johnson and Christian Tinli were given six months in prison on assault charges. A jury found the men guilty of a lesser charge of simple assault for the roles they played in the beating.

Chris Conway, who admits he was with the group that night, was given a seven-year sentence for aggravated manslaughter. He had been hoping for a lesser sentence because he never threw a punch, but prosecutors say he targeted the family.

The victim's wife, Alka Sinha, says she found some sympathy for Conway. "People do make mistakes and they are supposed to get punished for what they did, but he was the most remorseful and I felt for him," she says.

The two others had sentences put off until a later date. Julian Daley is facing 15 years for aggravated manslaughter and Steven Contreras is facing four years on a conspiracy charge.

The New Brunswick courtroom was so packed with supporters of both the Sinha family and the defendants that the judge had to make people wait outside.

The Sinha family and supporters were pushing for the stiffest penalties possible, handing over a petition with more than 7,000 signatures asking for the maximum sentences.
