MILFORD - Students were back in class at Jonathan Law High School today for the first time since Maren Sanchez was murdered in the hallway.

On their way into school, students and staff passed a memorial set up in Sanchez's honor a rock painted purple, which was her favorite color. Therapy dogs also arrived at the school, ready to comfort students through the hallways where they lost their classmate.

Police say Sanchez, 16, was pushed down a stairwell and stabbed with a knife in the neck and torso by a male classmate. Students say the suspect attacked Sanchez after she declined his invitation to the junior prom, which was to be held that night, but was postponed after the attack. Police say they're investigating the prom angle.

Police have declined to identify the suspect, but he has been identified in media reports as 16-year-old Chris Plaskon, a junior at the school. His attorney says he is undergoing psychiatric evaluation.
