2015 Alfa Romeo taps into brand's racing legacy
When the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C goes on sale in this summer in 86 dealerships across the U.S. and Canada, it willl start at $69,695, including a hefty $1,295 destination fee. That price applies to the limited Launch Edition model, which goes on sale first and is limited to a serialized run of 500 models. The standard 4C coupe will follow this fall and start at $55,195 including destination.
The mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive 4C is powered by an all-aluminum 237-horsepower, turbocharged 1.75-liter direct-injection four-cylinder engine and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Alfa pegs the 4C's zero-to-60-mph time in the mid-4-second range and says the coupe has a top speed of 160 mph.
Inside, the curvaceous coupe has room for two and a bare-bones cabin; the Launch Edition model adds black microfiber sport seats, more leather trim, red or white interior accent stitching and a unique "Launch Edition" plaque. Other Launch Edition upgrades include a race-tuned suspension, performance-tuned shocks and specific exhaust.
According to the company, the Alfa Romeo 4C is inspired by the century-old tradition of Alfa Romeo and projects the brand's authentic values into the future: Italian style, performance and engineering excellence.
The Alfa Romeo 4C is made entirely of carbon fiber that delivers extraordinary stiffness and strength. Attached to the Alfa Romeo 4C’s monocoque are front and rear cell structures, roof reinforcements and an engine-mounting frame made from lightweight aluminum.
The interior of the Alfa Romeo 4C features two composite-framed sport seats, a thermoformed dashboard and an exposed carbon fiber monocoque.
The 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C offers a driver-oriented cockpit with flat-bottom performance steering wheel and paddle-shift controls along with an aluminum pedals.
The inspiration for the all-new 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C dates back to the 1967 33 Stradale, the homologated version of the racing Type 33, which is considered one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Like the 33 Stradale, the 4C coupe shares its body forms and follows this performance tradition with an Italian-styled composite body 'clothing,' a state-of-the-art carbon fiber and aluminum structure and a high-performance turbocharged engine.
