WHAT MAKES IT INTERESTING
The “C3” generation of Corvettes, produced from 1968 to 1982, was distinguished by the unusual “Mako Shark” styling developed by famed auto designer Larry Shinoda. And even though federal emission controls limited horsepower by 1977, Chevrolet still touted that year’s coupe as a “dream car in an age of reality.”

“What makes it interesting is the slick body design,” says Filippone. “It’s a real head-turner. It never fails me how many people comment regarding its good looks wherever I park or stop at a traffic light. The silver paint is absolutely brilliant in the sun and almost shines white.”

HOW LONG HE’S OWNED IT
Since September 2012

WHERE HE FOUND IT
“I happened to be driving and spotted it not too far from my home,” he says. “The car was essentially parked on the side of a major road with a ‘For Sale’ sign on it.”

CONDITION
“I am in the process of making minor repairs to the vehicle, which I do myself,” Filippone says. “The car has 53,000 miles on it and I’m the third owner. There are no scratches on any of the body area. It is a very easy car to work on since parts are very accessible.”

TIPS FOR OWNERS
“The Web is an invaluable tool and highly recommended to anyone buying or restoring a car,” he advises. “There’s so much information, suggestions and opinions out there and I’ve taken advantage of this. I also have a small group of ‘car-head’ friends at work and in the neighborhood so this has also been a big plus.”

VALUE
Filippone declines to value the Corvette. The NADA Guides puts a “high retail” value of $15,300 on a 1977 coupe before options.

THE BOTTOM LINE
“The car reminds me of a simpler time in life when gas was cheap and muscle cars ruled the streets,” he says. “Those days are not totally gone, but it’s not like it used to be. What gets me going are the weekend drives when the weather is nice.”
