In the Garage: 1985 Ford Mustang GT
The owner: Michael Escobar (1998)
What makes it interesting: "This model was the last year with a carburetor and the first year with a roller cam and lifters, and factory headers," Escobar said. "It was also the first 'Fox' (a platform Ford used for many cars from the late '70s to early '90s) Mustang to come with 200-plus horsepower from the factory and the last Mustang to have a base price under $10,000."
Where he found it: He answered a Newsday ad and bought the Mustang in College Point.Condition: Escobar said he has "fully resto/modded" the Mustang, bringing it back to the way it was in 1985, but with updates. The paint is from a 1998 Mustang Cobra and the car has 17" "Pony" wheels, lowering springs, gauges with white faces, an engine dress-up kit and other modifications.
Value: It's insured for $12,500.
Tips for owners: "Be patient and that Mustang you desire will find you," he said. "The whole idea of owning a car like mine is to enjoy her, take care of her and meet many other enthusiasts, who share the same passion and have quickly become good friends."
Personal comments: "1985 was a good year for me as I was a senior in high school," Escobar said. "I couldn't afford one then, but, boy, did I want one."
