Kia unviels next generation Sorento
Kia took the wraps off its third-generation Sorento, which the company says features a new look with a bold, swept-back styling and more sophisticated surface detailing.
The new look is an evolution of the current vehicle, incorporating fresh visual elements inspired by the Kia Cross GT concept that debuted at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. The new model will be showcased in Korea later this month and make its European premiere in October at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
Kia did not offer a time table as to when the new Sorento would be available in the U.S. But with many automakers reporting robust SUV sales domestically, Kia might want to get its newest Sorento into local dealers as quickly as possible.
The new Sorrento's updated look is enhanced by an increase in length (+3.8 inches to 15.7 feet) and a slight reduction in height (down to 5.5 feet), while the 3.1 inch longer wheelbase allows more passenger space in all three seat rows.
The new Kia Sorrento is touted by the carmaker as offering a 'more mature' appearance. The design of its exterior styling was led by Kia's Namyang design studio in Korea with input from the brand's design studios in Germany and California.
