Mazda is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Miata, and later this year will debut the 2016 model of the sports car at a ceremony in California.

Mazda Miata celebrates 25 years

Mazda will continue its celebration of the Miata's silver anniversary with the debut of the 2016 MX-5 at an event scheduled for early September in California. At the recent New York Auto Show, the company showcased the car's new Skyactiv chassis, but offered few other details about the new Miata.

In addition to the global unveil of the 2016 MX-5 Miata, Mazda North America has partnered with the enthusiast-operated event known as Miatas at Mazda Raceway, which will be held in California on September 5-7.

While Mazda has yet to offer the public a look at the 2016 version of the Miata, Newsday offers a look at the popular sports car from the past quarter-century.
