Mercedes launches latest 12-cylinder S65 coupe
The Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe is the latest 12-cylinder high-performance car introduced to the United States by the German automaker. With a top speed of 186 mph, the S65's 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine tops out at 621 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds.
Beyond the power under the hood, the S65 is also equipped with a 360-degree camera, Burmester high-end 3-D surround sound system, active blind spot assist, active lane keeping assist, napa leather upholstery and a Keyless-Go package.
Among the design features of the S65 AMG is the large central Mercedes star on the front apron, the twin-blade radiator grille, the trim strip on the A-wing, the side flics (air deflector elements) and the front splitter, which are all chromed-trimmed. The three-dimensional front splitter helps increase downforce at the front axle, while the gap above the front splitter ensures an effective flow of air to the separate engine oil cooler.
The AMG has an exhaust system with two chromed twin tailpipes, which on the V12 design are integrated into the rear apron. Above the diffuser insert, painted in high-gloss black, the trim element forms an effective contrast. It echoes the design of the A-wings on the front apron and is finished in high-sheen chrome.
The S65 AMG's three-spoke sports steering wheel has shift paddles, a distinctly contoured rim trimmed with perforated leather in the grip area and a metal insert featuring AMG lettering. The car's instrument cluster includes information on the engine speed, vehicle speed and other data that appears on two animated round dials on the 12.2 inch, high-resolution color, thin-film transistor display.
The upholstery in the S65 AMG features exclusive napa leather with a seat upholstery layout in a diamond-pattern. The seats also offer electric adjustment, memory function, seat heating and climate control, which are all standard features.
The S65 AMG V12 delivers a peak output of 621 hp and goes from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds with a top speed of 186 mph, electronically limited.
