Ten most affordable midsize sedans

The 2014 Nissan Altima has been named the most affordable midsize sedan in a recent survey completed by Cars.com.

"The Altima is a strong choice for budget conscious midsize sedan shoppers," said Joe Wiesenfelder, Cars.com's executive editor. "Beyond being a good deal, the Altima gets great gas mileage of 38 MPG and received very good crash test results."

To be eligible for consideration, cars had to be equipped with features such as automatic transmission, cruise control, a USB connection, Bluetooth, power windows, a power driver's seat and a backup camera. Cars.com used these features and the five-year estimated fuel cost to compile its list of the 10 most economical midsize sedans.

1. Nissan Altima

The 2014 Nissan Altima S was ranked as the most affordable midsize sedan by Cars.com. According to the survey, the Altima tested was priced at $23,820 and has a five-year fuel cost of $9,000, for a total cost of $32,820.

The 2014 Kia Optima LX holds the distinction of having the highest fuel costs on the Cars.com list of Most Affordable Midsize Sedans. The car tested was priced at $23,700 and with its five-year fuel costs of $10,250 calculated to a total cost of $33,950.

5. Kia Optima Hybrid LX

Kia's Optima model goes back-to-back on the Cars.com list, with the hybrid version coming in at number five. Priced at $27,400, its five-year annual fuel costs of $7,250 equates to a total cost of $34,650.

It's the highest ranked American car, the most expensive sedan in the top10 and also has the lowest five-year fuel costs. Priced at $29,100, the Fusion has a five-year fuel cost of $5,750 for a total cost of $34,850.
