Dr. David Rivadeneira has been appointed director of surgical services and director of colorectal surgical services at Huntington Hospital. He also was named vice chair of surgical strategic initiatives for the North Shore-LIJ Health System's Eastern/Suffolk region. Sandy Chu has joined Grant Thornton in Manhattan as a partner and national leader of the firm's China business group. The New Jersey resident previously led the China desk at Ernst & Young in Manhattan.

BANKING

Joe Roberto has been named president of New York banking operations and senior executive vice president of BankUnited in Manhattan. The Bay Shore resident most recently was senior vice president of Capital One's New York City deposit portfolio.

ENGINEERING

Scott Risinger joins H2M, a full-service consulting and design firm in Melville, as senior project engineer. The Greenlawn resident previously was project manager with Nelson & Pope in Melville.

LAW

Cronin & Cronin in Mineola has announced two new attorneys at the firm.

Sean M. Cronin has been named partner. The Port Washington resident specializes in tax certiorari matters in Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester and Rockland counties and upstate New York and previously was an attorney at Cronin, Cronin & Harris in Mineola.

Cara P. Cronin joins as an associate, focusing her practice in Suffolk County where she settles cases with town and village assessors, and heads the firm's residential department. The Manhattan resident previously worked in Washington, D.C., at the National Republican Congressional Committee.

BOARDS/ASSOCIATIONS

John Racanelli has been elected third vice chair of Flushing Willets Point Corona Local Development Corporation's board of directors. The Oyster Bay resident is a partner at Farrell Fritz in Uniondale.

James F. Gaughran has been appointed chairman of the Suffolk County Water Authority for a second term. The Northport resident is an attorney in private practice in Northport and Huntington.

Mario Caracappa has been named to the board of directors of Family Service League in Huntington. The Huntington resident is executive vice president of treasury management at BankUnited in Melville.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Ryan Mulholland has been named deputy communications director for the Town of North Hempstead and Supervisor Jon Kaiman. The Wantagh resident previously was communications director at the Nassau County Civil Service Employees Association Local 830 in Mineola.
