An Amagansett house designed by noted architect Charles Gwathmey, part of the The New York Five group known for a pure modern style has been listed for $5.995 million.

Gwathmey designed several homes in the Hamptons, says listing agent Arlene Reckson of The Corcoran Group.

“There’s a pedigree to having a Gwathmey,” Reckson says. “It’s really for somebody who loves and respects and wants that type of architecture.”

The five-bedroom house was commissioned in 1965 and built in 1970. It has an open great room, which was “revolutionary” for its time, Reckson says. Two of its three bathrooms have been renovated and the bedrooms have original Gwathmey built-ins.

The one-acre property has a pool and tennis court.

Gwathmey also built the house next door for his mother, and it is still in his family, Reckson says.
