Modern-day master suites aren't just for slumber. Many serve as retreats, says Peggy Moriarty of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty in Cold Spring Harbor. Some suites are set up with a sitting area that can accommodate a television and a computer, while others may have a fireplace and a private deck. Here are three homes on the market with master suites that offer a little something extra:

East Hampton

4 Bay View Ave.

$1,395,000

Soothing is one way to describe this first-floor master suite, which has views of the landscape designed with an in-ground heated pool and a pond with a cascading waterfall. The bedroom -- painted in sage with white trim -- features six-oversix windows with transoms, a tray ceiling and a wood floor, and the bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub. There are another four bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms in this custom-designed postmodern. Built in 2004 on a 1.37-acre parcel, the nine-room house also features a living room with a cathedral ceiling and a fireplace; a den; a formal dining room and an eat-in kitchen with granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances. Amenities include central air-conditioning, five-zone heat, a full basement with a 10-foot ceiling, a mahogany deck and a two-car garage. Roslyn Harbor

15 Church St.

$1,059,000

Several rooms of this 10-room Colonial have winter water views of Roslyn Harbor. They include the second-floor master suite, which has seven windows. Four of them are set in the turret, which has a dome ceiling. This nook serves as the sitting area. Other features of the master include a wood floor and recessed lighting, while the master bath -- one of 3 1/2 baths in the house -- has a dual vanity. Another three bedrooms and a second bathroom also are on this level. Down below, on the first floor, is a two-story entrance foyer flanked by the formal living room and formal dining room. The open layout includes a den with a fireplace and eat-in kitchen outfitted with high-end appliances, including a Wolf range. Amenities include central air-conditioning, a finished basement and a detached two-car garage. The elevated parcel is 100 by 100 feet. Maria Babaev, Laffey Fine Homes, Greenvale, 516-200-5700

Cold Spring Harbor

553 Woodbury Rd.

$699,000

Call this bi-level master bedroom a sanctuary of sorts. It accesses a private deck, has a fireplace and a spiral staircase that ascends to a spacious loft. The master bath has a large soaking tub set against a window the length of the wall. Though the nine-room house is referred to as a Colonial, the floor plan has different levels and some rooms with interesting angles. The kitchen, for instance, has a separate eating area a few steps up. The space has a vaulted ceiling with skylights, windows, wainscoting and built-in shelves. Other details throughout include wood floors, moldings, picture windows, French doors and three fireplaces. The house has four bedrooms and three full baths. The .38-acre parcel offers a lush landscape with vignettes of garden spaces. Peggy Moriarty, Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty, Cold Spring Harbor, 631-692-6770
