Long Island shows up on the third chart of the 10 most expensive areas in the country. The $376,900 median home price on the Island — where values rose 0.1 percent compared to the same quarter a year ago — makes the area the eight most expensive.

The area labeled "New York/Long Island," sixth on the list, refers to the metropolitan area that includes parts of northern New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The median price was $380,400, a 1.8 percent increase over a year ago.
