This Valley Stream house doesn't just have a backyard, it has a "European-style rear yard," according to the listing for the property, which is on the market for $599,000. So what does that mean? The owner -- a makeup artist to many celebrities, including Long Island native Mariah Carey -- likes to describe what he's done to the yard that way, says listing agent Letitia Kopper of Century 21 American Homes. "He has a chandeliered gazebo, a fountain, ivy going over the archways, a fireplace and statues," she says.

Here's a new one: In Rocky Point, the listing for this three-bedroom, one-bath cottage on the market for $229,900 says the property has a "peek-a-boo water view." We asked the listing agent what that means. "It's a small water view that gets better in the winter," says Linda Albo of Albo Agency. The 40-by-100-foot property is 1,000 feet from a private beach on the Long Island Sound.

Real estate ads have come a long way, baby. Take this five-bedroom, 1.5-bath Cape in Brentwood, which has an asking price of $132,600. The Cape is not only "in need of a touch of love," but it has potential for the "handyman/-woman." Stacey Single of Cruse Real Estate says she wrote the ad copy for this home as well as all the others her firm represents. "There are handywomen out there," says Single, Cruse's offer contract specialist. "I'm one of them."
