New Hyde Park offers a variety of capes and Colonials
House hunting in New Hyde Park may not be as cut-and-dried as some other areas on Long Island. That's because this ethnically diverse community falls within several school districts, lies between two counties and two towns and has a village as well as an unincorporated area.
"It's a really big town," says Tara Moreno, owner-broker of Abbott Realty. "You don't have to leave the vicinity to dine or shop," adds village resident Grace Desiderio of ERA/Caputo Realty, noting Hillside Avenue and Jericho Turnpike are among the vibrant commercial districts that residents flock to. Parks, houses of worship, services and the North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center also are part of the scene.
New Hyde Park appeals to professionals who commute into the city as well as to families with children, Desiderio says. Capes and Colonials dominate the housing stock, although other styles can be found.
New Hyde Park is a sellers' market, says Desiderio, noting that since inventory has dropped, prices have been going up.
