Buying and selling real estate in the communities of Long Island

Talk about good timing — home buyers don’t only have a tax credit they can still take advantage of, but a slew of houses on the market for under $200,000. OK, some assembly work will be required:

This bank-owned cape in West Babylon has an asking price of $188,100. The three-bedroom, one-bath, one-half-bath home is being sold “as is,” so you know some work will be necessary. But it’s cute: It was built in 1934 and has a front porch. “The house has vintage appeal,” says Edward Pirro, licensed salesperson with Island Advantage Realty. The property is 95 feet by 100 feet, there’s a three-car garage and an above-ground pool. Listing agent: Todd Yovino, Island Advantage Realty, 631-351-6000.

Then there’s this house in Selden, also a foreclosure. It’s on the market for $180,000. “It needs an investor, it’s in pretty rough shape,” says listing agent Sharon Klein of Hudson Valley Homes and Land. The plumbing works, she says, though the house needs an overall rehabilitation. Built in 1980, the home has four bedrooms and two baths and is located on a .16-acre lot. Listing agent: Sharon Klein, Hudson Valley Homes and Land, 845-255-1045.

This East Setauket Colonial in the Three Village school district is in the best shape, although the house is located on a busy street. That hasn’t stifled interest in the .24-acre property. With an asking price of $200,000, the house has about 18 offers, says Kerri Gottlieb, a licensed sales associate with Map Real Estate Services, Inc. It was built in 1999 and has three bedrooms, one bath and one half-bath. Listing agent: Mark Palladini, Map Real Estate Services, Inc., 631-244-1410.

This Shirley ranch “just about needs everything,” says listing agent Louise Conklin of Century 21 Cor Ace Realty, from new windows to new sheetrock. Maybe that’s why the asking price is a low $90,000. Built in 1955, the bank-owned house has three bedrooms and one bath. It is on a 50-foot-by-131-foot lot. Listing agent: Louise Conklin of Century 21 Cor Ace Realty, 631-878-3400.

And there are more houses to be found this week under $200,000, like these ranches in from Huntington (for $194,900), Brentwood (for $135,000) and Lake Ronkonkoma (for $129,990).
