Free mortgage foreclosure clinic Aug. 13
One-on-one guidance will be available Aug. 13 to Nassau County residents who have questions about their mortgages or need counseling on debts.
At the free, monthly Mortgage Foreclosure Clinic, organized by the Nassau County Bar Association, homeowners can bring their mortgage papers to be reviewed or just ask questions of representatives from the Nassau County Homeownership Center, Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Committee, the state Attorney General’s Office, a bankruptcy attorney and the bar association. “Attorneys have volunteered to assist dozens of Nassau homeowners with individual foreclosure issues, help them sort things out, and give advice or refer them to agencies and programs, right in the same room,” said bar president Emily F. Franchina. “This is not legal representation, but we will help homeowners find out if indeed, they need a credit counselor or a lawyer, and get them in touch with available resources.” The clinic has been set for 4 to 6 p.m. at the bar’s Mineola headquarters, 15th and West streets. Reservations are required; call the bar 516-747-4070.
