Historic Brookville mansion hits market for $12.9 million

First there was Mill Neck's The Chimneys. Now the North Shore's historic Harris mansion is for sale.
Architect Roger Bullard designed the 1929 Brookville manor house, which is listed for $12.9 million. There are eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The 31.56-acre property includes a gatehouse, a greenhouse, a pool and a tennis court.
The house was built for Henry Upham Harris, a partner at J.P. Morgan. He also was a partner at Harris, Winthrop & Co., which later became Harris, Upham & Co.
According to the 2007 book “North Shore Long Island Country Houses 1890-1950,” the mansion is “completely fireproof.” It is made of stone taken from the excavation of New York City’s subway system tunnels.
Landscape architect Louise Payson designed the grounds.
The Eden Tree Farm Partnership now owns the property. Public records show that private investor Oliver Grace Jr. is behind the entity.
The house is an open listing.
