Nassau forum will offer free home ownership counseling
A Nassau County forum Saturday will offer one-on-one counseling on home ownership issues -- modifying loans, buying rehabbed foreclosures, getting jobs and more.
For troubled homeowners, four mortgage firms will be available to discuss modifications and other problems with their clients; they are Bank of America, Chase, Saxon and Wells Fargo.
Three attorneys will speak on rescue scams, help resources and the federal Making Home Affordable Program, which sets refinancing and loan modification rules for participating lenders and servicers.
State, local and nonprofit agencies there will provide information on mortgage/rent aid, debt management, first-time home buyers’ tax credit, help for veterans and legal resources. County officials will also talk about chances for first-time buyers to get rehabbed foreclosures under the federally-funded Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
This is the second in a series of county forums designed to help neighborhoods hardest hit by the housing crisis. The forum will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Wheatley School, 11 Bacon Rd. in Old Westbury. For other details, call the county at 516-572-1903.Tags: help for homeowners
