New St. James house, real Victorian style

Both the exterior and interior details of this

Both the exterior and interior details of this Victorian-style house, built in 2005, reflect that era. The home, at 217 First St. in St. James, is on the market for $599,000. (Credit: Handout)

When Glenn Schneider and his wife, Lisa Marie Marro, started construction on their new Victorian-style house in St. James, now listed for $599,000, they went all out in keeping faithful to the era, both inside and out.

Every detail was researched, from the paint colors — plums, pinks and greens on the exterior — to the appliances. The couple was able to locate a modern kitchen stove-convection oven built to resemble one from that time period.

A bathtub, donated by a friend who discovered it in a circa-1860 carriage house he was renovating, was refurbished and placed in the bathroom in the second-floor turret section.
Schneider, a carpenter, did a lot of the custom work himself over a period of three years.

The eight-room home was completed in 2005 and is on a 100-by-109-foot lot. There are three bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Other features include an eat-in kitchen, formal dining room, den with fireplace, wood floors and radiant heat in the kitchen and bathrooms. There’s also an open porch off one of the bedrooms and a back deck.

The listing agent is Gloria J. Bates of DeBarbieri Associates.
