TO THE MANOR BORN. Old Westbury’s historic Dorset Lodge has come on the market for $2.28 million. The three-acre property belonged to Henry Montague Earle, a prominent New York attorney and a well-known polo player. The 16-room house was built in 1929.
Features include a two-story reception hall, original oak paneling from England, Tiffany stained-glass windows and nine fireplaces, according to the listing with Andrea Kamhi of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty. There are two secret doors operated by buttons in the library — one to a staircase and another to a closet, Kamhi says. -- Valerie Kellogg
FOR SALE AGAIN. Builder Eric Friedlander recently put his 7.76-acre Laurel Hollow Harewood Estate back on the market for $9.475 million. The spread, which has been on and off the market since 2007, originally was listed for $14.5 million.
Friedlander purchased the 1932 Georgian Brick Manor in 2000 and completely gutted it, working with Manhattan architect Oliver Cope. The renovation and expansion took about two years.
Friedlander says his favorite space is the ballroom. “It’s just incredible, with floor-to-ceiling palladium windows on three sides,” says Ally McNally of Shawn Elliott Luxury Homes & Estates in Woodbury, who is marketing the estate with Linda Carey. Set atop a bluff, the house — about 8,000 square feet — has 12 rooms.
Appointments include arched entranceways, plaster moldings, radiant-heat floors and three fireplaces. The reception room features an oval fresco ceiling with inset lighting and a wood floor with a sunburst design. There are seven bedrooms, five full bathrooms and three half-bathrooms, including the master suite, which has a fireplace and a sitting room.
The pool house, now with a lead dome coated with copper, was renovated as well, says Carey. About 2,000 square feet, it is styled with marble floors, a 19th-century Victorian Bristol chandelier and a fireplace. It also has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a basement. As for the pool, it’s gunite and heated.
