Sag Harbor named one of the 'happiest' seaside towns
Many Long Island seaside communities can bring about happiness, but it is Sag Harbor that placed fourth on Coastal Living magazine’s 2013 list of America’s Top 10 Happiest Seaside Towns. Ranked by reader votes, the list is led by Beaufort, S.C., and finishes with Pescadero, Calif., in 10th place.
Here’s the magazine’s take on Sag Harbor: “Situated between Long Island’s celebrity studded Bridgehampton and East Hampton, this whaling town turned artists’ and writers’ colony, only two hours from New York City, has maintained its cozy, small-town identity for decades.”
But the small-town identity has some high-priced homes. A quick look at properties for sale in Sag Harbor show prices ranging from a 4,600-square-foot historical waterfront home listed with Douglas Elliman Real Estate for $7.1 million to a one-bedroom, one-bath co-op on the market for $359,000.
Coastal Living chose its 2013 finalists based on criteria that included Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, percentage of sunny days, healthiness of beaches, commute times, walkability, standard of living and financial well-being of the locals, geographic diversity, and an editorial assessment of something called “coastal vibe.”
