Stony Brook home for sale, once owned by LI's first millionaire
On the market for $579,000, this historical Stony Brook house was one of the many homes owned by Long Island’s first millionaire, Jonas Smith, says Karen Martin, the archivist for the Three Village Historical Society.
The three-bedroom, two-bath home is called the Hammond-Bayles house and comes complete with a Three Village Historical Society plaque to prove its historical significance. Many of the original features of the house have been preserved, including an original cast-iron, wood-burning stove, says listing agent Frances Gates of Virginia O’Dwyer Real Estate.
Built circa 1850, the house also has its original moldings, windows, doors, shutters, clapboard paneling and porch. The heating system is new, and the kitchen is modern.
The property comes with a detached garage and a smaller dollhouse that has a loft. In the back, there’s a short stonewall bordering the edge of the property.
Previous owners of the house include the Hammond, Bayles, Cito and Jaycox families.
