Upper Brookville home with pedigree, and more
An Upper Brookville home designed by the late New England architect and author Royal Barry Wills, who is often cited as one of America’s most influential residential architects, is on the market. The 1950 farm ranch, which is listed for $1.595 million, contains some of his signature features, including a large central chimney and many windows, says Anne Kerr of Piping Rock Associates, who is marketing the home with Antje Dolido. “There are many windows with 24 to 36 panes, so there’s always natural light just flowing through,” Kerr says. Other details include built-ins — from bookcases to drawers — as well as three fireplaces. The fireplace in the master bedroom is accented with Delft tiles. Vintage hardware, such as doorknobs and hinges, can be found throughout the house. There are four bedrooms and four bathrooms. The house is on a hill, on 3.86 acres.

ROOMS WITH A VIEW With its wall of windows overlooking the Great South Bay, it’s pretty hard to find a bad view from this house in Bay Shore. “From every room in the house, you can see the water,” says Jackie Stewart of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, who, along with agent Jennifer Marsala, is marketing the property for $1.529 million. At the end of a cul-de-sac and set on three-quarters of an acre in Saxon Estates, the secluded, modern house is unique among the historic mansions south of Montauk Highway, Stewart says. Built in 2000, the centerpiece of the 4,600-square-foot home is its two-story great room, complete with a fireplace and a panoramic water view. The great room is not the only waterfront amenity. The property also has a fully electrified boat shed, as well as a boat slip with water and electricity, a boat lift and a Jet Ski lift. A private master suite on the first level of the five-bedroom, 3.5-bath home features two walk-in closets, a dressing room, a Jacuzzi tub and a bidet. A sweeping circular staircase leads to the second level.
