Recent sale in the area. A four-bedroom, 3½-bath 2004 contemporary on half an acre on New Mill Road sold for $645,000 in late June.

Why it’s for sale. Kenny, 58, a real estate agent and developer, and Kathy, 46, a party decorator who owns her own business, are ready to downsize.

The Reed’ five-bedroom, three-bathroom ranch is brick and stone construction and was built in 1962. It sits on two verdant acres in the center of the Smithtown community. Kathy talks about the house:

“I love the log cabin Adirondack look. In the living room and den, we have pine walls and beams. We have a stone fireplace in the living room and a full wall of stone with multiple sliding glass doors in the den. It’s country but not antique-y. Rustic charm is how I describe it.

We use the house as a four-bedroom. The fifth bedroom is used as an office ... The whole house was gutted and additions added ... 12 years ago ... Kenny adds:

It is fed by a stream that runs ... the entire length of the property ... to get from the house to the yard you have to cross one of two bridges to get to a football-field-size yard. We have gorgeous shrubs and ornamental trees ... and another koi pond with a waterfall at the ... front entrance of the house...."
