Originally located on North Road across from Moores Lane, this circa-1880 Greenport farmhouse was once known as “the old schoolhouse.” It was purchased by the Burt family in 1942 for $400 and in 1943, it was moved to a family lot on County Road 48 at the cost of $350.

Seventy-one years later, Charles Burt, who grew up here, and his wife, Sue, are selling the home, which is listed with Paul Loeb of Lloyd's Realty, for $319,000.

Although the Burts haven’t been able to confirm if the building once served as a schoolhouse, Sue says she can imagine it was, given the layout.

“The floor plan is relatively open for a house that age,” Sue says, noting it has an L-shape living room and dining room. The layout also includes a new eat-in kitchen as well as three bedrooms and 1½ bathrooms. Original features include the windows and wide plank pine floors on the second level and in the attic. The main level’s wood floors are believed to have been taken from the Moore mansion. Updates include a new roof and new gas burner.

Another unusual feature for a house of this era, says Loeb, is that it has a full basement with a high ceiling and outdoor entrance.
