An Old Westbury home, on the market for $3.599 million, was given a complete modern makeover just over a year ago. The original 1981 ranch now features soaring ceilings, walls of glass and black walnut flooring throughout the house.

A sunken living room shares a two-sided fireplace with a banquet-size formal dining room. Its front foyer has a limestone floor and access to the backyard’s stone patio through sliding glass doors. The 2.58-acre property features an in-ground pool, a hot tub and a tennis court.

The kitchen has two sleek walls of cabinets and built-in appliances. At one end of the large kitchen island is a built-in flat screen TV facing the adjacent family room area. There are five bedrooms and 5½ baths. The master suite comes with its own den, his-and-her's baths and a Jacuzzi.

Other features include a guest suite, a temperature-controlled wine cellar room, a deck and an attached three-car garage. The listing agent is Malcolm Kastin of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.

BIG CHANGE A 1937 Colonial in Old Brookville, on the market for $2.8 million, was once the main house on the estate of Thomas Moore Bancroft Sr. Bancroft was chairman and president of Mount Vernon Mills, a textile manufacturer formerly in Baltimore, and was on the War Production Board during World War II.

In 2004, the current owners renovated and updated the home, doubling its size. The additions and changes kept to the original style and character of the house, says Carolina Boucos, listing agent with Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.

The house has six bedrooms and six baths. French doors are found throughout the house, taking in lots of light and views of the backyard. The new wing offers a breezeway between the main house and the three-car garage. It also has a laundry area, a guest bedroom suite and a sunroom with access to the pool area, a cabana and an outdoor shower.

The master bedroom has his-and-her's closets, a dressing room and an outside deck. The master bath has his-and-her's sinks and a step-up tub tucked into an alcove. Other features include a butler’s pantry, a library, a breakfast room, a formal dining room, four wood-burning fireplaces and a full finished basement. The property is just shy of 2 acres.
