Richard Gere's North Haven estate being listed for $65M
Actor Richard Gere’s sprawling, historic North Haven estate is on the market for $65 million.
The six-acre property dubbed Strongheart is listed with Linda Haugevik of Sotheby’s International Realty.
The estate has more than 300 feet of waterfront and includes the main Strongheart Manor house, built in 1902 and since renovated and expanded. There are two additional guesthouses, with a combined total of 12 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms on three separate lots.
Along with waterfront views, the landscaped property features an outdoor fireplace pavilion and a teahouse in the center of a waterfront pond. Actor Robert Edeson reportedly named the estate after a character he played on Broadway. Neighbors include musician Jimmy Buffett.
Gere acquired the property through three separate purchases in 2005, 2007 and 2008, totaling more than $11.3 million, under the Buddhist-themed name Tushita Trust, according to public records.
Around the same time, Gere also helped rescue and restore the historic Bedford Post Inn in Westchester County. Gere spokesman Alan Nierob declined to comment on the actor’s Hamptons listing.
In 2009, Gere and his wife, Carey Lowell, put their seven-bedroom Water Mill farmhouse on the market for $8.8 million. The asking price was lowered to $7.2 million, and it sold later that year for $5.9 million.
