A circa-1867 Shelter Island farmhouse, on the market for $599,000 has quite the tale to tell. It was once part of a larger structure known as the Cobb-Webb house in Shelter Island Heights.

Sometime before 1889, the house was divided into two sections in order to move it to another site. The larger section made it to the final destination, but the smaller section, now the farmhouse, fell off the transport and was left on the spot where it stands today.

The eight-room house has four bedrooms and 2½ baths. There is a formal dining room with a wood-burning stove, family room, home office, kitchen and screened porch.
The lot is just shy of three acres and comes with beach rights.

Linda McCarthy of Daniel Gale Sotheby International Realty is the listing agent.
