The event is a first for the sponsor, The Southampton Historical Museum. The tour, called An Insider's View, will be held from 1:30 to 4:30pm. May 15.

Two of the homes are now museums, authentically furnished. Five are occupied by families who have decorated them according to personal tastes while retaining the original classic backgrounds. One, called Ocean Castle, seen here, is owned by an interior designer who has used his whimsical collection of antiques and modern furnishings against the structure's unique gothic-style architecture.. Another of the homes is occupied by a sixth-generation of the same family, which has retained much of the heirloom pieces.

The tour will benefit the restoration of Sayer Barn, which was used by British soldiers to stable their horses during the American Revolution. The barn will recreate a working farm housing live animals. There will be displays of farm tools donated by local farms and demonstrations of antique machinery; school tours will be welcome.

Tickets are $75 in advance or $90 on tour day. Call 631 283 2494 for information.
