Owner Carla Kretschmann, who completed the home with her husband, Peter, in 2002, says the 2.7-acre property was a case of love at first sight that inspired them to build their dream home here.

“We built the house so that every room faces the water,” she says. “It’s an incredibly pristine and bucolic site.”

The home was designed with European flair, a nod to Peter’s German roots.

The home features push-button light switches, antique limestone floors, cedar ceilings, imported European light fixtures and wide-plank wood floors sourced from a 125-year-old New England barn.

A first-floor master bedroom suite features leaded-glass French doors to a bluestone balcony, his-and-hers Calacatta marble bathrooms with walk-in closets, and an attached sitting room with a marble fireplace. A 3,000-square-foot lower-level suite includes four bedrooms, a kitchen and a living room.

Oversized doorways and an elevator were added to ensure accessibility, Kretschmann says.

Tree-lined grounds include an in-ground gunite pool and a spa, which are accessible from a lower level walkout. A winding path leads to 241 feet of waterfront, and there is also room to add a tennis court, listing agent John Messina of Shawn Elliot Luxury Homes, says.
