Why it's for sale: Alfred Tommaso, 54, a home appraiser, says he and wife,
Annette, 52, an accountant, want a smaller home (in the same area) because
their children are grown. Daughter Danielle has moved to New Orleans to work on
the Katrina clean-up with the Army Corps of Engineers; daughter Michele is a
senior at SUNY Purchase.
This 1970 farm ranch, on a 0.69-acre lot less than a mile from Mount Sinai
Harbor, has a pool with a spa and waterfall. Alfred Tommaso credits the home
builder for the charm of the neighborhood and unique features of the house:
"The builder still lives in the neighborhood. He went on vacation and fell
in love with New England and went back up to get blueprints. ... He wanted to
keep it like a little New England neighborhood, and it worked. The house has
got a great library in there. It's got dual doors, and on one wall you have all
the shelves and built-ins. ... It's got custom details throughout that the
builder does with all the houses locally. ... On the front porch, we have the
dentil moldings. Inside we have the wide-plank moldings."
