Why it's for sale: George, 73, a retired Entenmann's driver, and Anna Marie, 74, who is retired from the advertising business, say they are downsizing but staying on Long Island.

The Giarratanos raised their two sons during the 38 years they have lived in this 3,176-square-foot house. Between the boat slips and in-ground pool, the home was seemingly built for summertime water sports and entertaining. George says:

@Newsday

"The dock has 10 boat slips and can accommodate boats up to 36 feet. There's water and electric at the dock. . . . We have a large eat-in kitchen, but spend most of our time in the den, which is off the kitchen, dining room and sunroom. The sunroom has skylights and is nice for breakfast in the morning. . . .

"This house is great for entertaining. We've had many large family parties here. We have an L-shaped in-ground pool. . . . There are four bedrooms upstairs and an office on the first floor that could be a bedroom. The master suite has a bedroom, two bathrooms, an exercise room and a sauna. . . . We have a finished basement, paneled and carpeted. We were high and dry and had no flooding from Sandy. . . .

"There are nice high-end homes on either side. Great neighbors in a quiet neighborhood. . . . All the windows are triple pane and about 10 years old. We have wide-plank pegged hardwood floors in the dining room and living room and a gas fireplace in the den."
