Building a Very Old Story
READER Warren H. Griffin of Sea Cliff thought he noted a familiar Sea Cliff scene in a 1914 photograph published on Dec. 6. And he found it in his collection of historic postcards."The building behind the auto was the Hempstead Harbor Hotel,'' Griffin says. "The building is still standing and is now an apartment house. The body of water is known as Scudders Pond. The car was parked on a private road belonging to the North Shore Country Club, then and now. The locale is across Shore Road from what is now Tappen Beach.''
