Greatest Moment:

Bob Nystrom scored at 7:11 of overtime, giving the Islanders the Stanley Cup on May 24, 1980. It was the first of four straight championships.

Other Memorable Moments:

-- Won 19 consecutive playoff series, comprising four Cups and a trip to the 1984 finals.

-- J.P. Parise scored 11 seconds into overtime on April 11, 1975, beating the Rangers in their best-of-three series.

-- Having trailed three games to none, the Islanders beat the Penguins 4 games to 3 in 1975. Then they rallied from a three-games-to-none deficit to force a seventh game with the Flyers.

-- Pat LaFontaine scored at 8:42 of the fourth overtime in Game 7, beating the Capitals on April 18, 1987.

-- Mike Bossy, Denis Potvin, Bill Smith, Bryan Trottier, general manager Bill Torrey and coach Al Arbour were elected to the Hall of Fame.

-- David Volek scored 5:16 into overtime of Game 7, eliminating the Stanley Cup champion Penguins May 14, 1993.

Do You Remember?

-- Bill Smith became the first NHL goaltender given credit for scoring a goal, Nov. 28, 1979.

-- Richie Hansen of Northport became the first Long Islander to play for the Islanders in 1976.

-- Mike Bossy scored 50 goals in the first 50 games of the 1980-81 season, getting two in the final 4:10 of the 50th game.

-- A 1976 exhibition game against a Soviet team was interrupted when demonstrators threw bags of red paint onto the Coliseum ice.

-- John Tonelli scored with 47 seconds left, giving the Islanders a then-NHL record 15th straight win in 1982.

--Goalie Mark Fitzpatrick recovered from a life-threatening blood disorder and won the 1992 Masterton Trophy for perseverance.

-- The years 1988-92 and 1994-98.

-- Setting a record with 60 losses in 1972-73.

-- Pat LaFontaine's holdout/captain Brent Sutter's trade demand, 1991.

-- Pittsburgh goalie Michel Dion after the Islanders scored twice in the final 5:27 to tie and again 6:19 into overtime to win climactic Game 5 of their 1982 first-round series.
