At a school board meeting at Sparkes Elementary School in 1992, signs of protest about censorship are evident. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June, 1982, that Levittown's Island Trees district could be sued over its ban of nine books. In August, the district, saying the courts should not control schools, rescinded the ban. Among the books were "Soul on Ice" by Eldridge Cleaver and "Slaughterhous Five" by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
