Suspect sought in theft of wallet in Commack
Suffolk police Thursday released images of a suspected thief, and detectives asked the public's help identifying the man, who allegedly bashed in a window and stole a wallet from an SUV at a Commack park.
The wallet, which contained $25 in cash and a credit card, was stolen from a Cadillac Escalade at Flynn Memorial Park on Old Commack Road on May 5, police said. The thief broke the drivers' side window to get the wallet, police said.
The credit card was used a short time later at a Hess gas station on East Northport Road in Kings Park, police said. A high-resolution video camera captured the suspect's image as he entered the store.
The crime is classified as a grand larceny. Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County police Fourth Squad detectives ask anyone who recognizes the man to call 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential and the caller will be eligible for a cash reward.
