Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone said he will run for a fifth term in office.
"I'm excited," Petrone, 63, said last week.
"Over the last year I've been approached by many, many people from the community, the political arena to really consider staying."
Petrone said a major deciding factor were the many projects he has implemented that he would like to see to fruition.
"I'm at the point I've worked very hard to put these together and I'd like to at least see them begin and see some follow through," Petrone said.
Among those projects are the continued revitalization of Huntington Station, increasing affordable housing in the town and making sure the town remains fiscally solid.
"I'm ready," Petrone said. "I have good relationships with Democrats and Republicans, but I think people understand that I do government for the people and not any particular party."
Petrone made the announcement at his recent birthday party and annual fundraiser last month. "It was an opportunity for me to announce I'm going to run again," Petrone said Thursday.
Petrone was first elected to a four-year term as supervisor in 1993. He was re-elected to a second term in 1997, a third term in 2001, and a fourth term in November 2005.
