THE BRONX - An audit released by New York City Comptroller John Liu says many city pools are hazardous and unsafe for swimmers.
In July and August of last year, auditors visited 39 city pools and found dozens of hazards at 29 of them. Among the hazards found were loose ladders, mold and missing latches to children's pools. Dangerous spots where swimmers could slip and fall were also noted.
Pools where problems were found include Claremont Pool, the pool at the Edenwald Houses and the Olympic Pool in Crotona.
The Parks Department says that last year, it completed 2,800 work orders for maintenance conditions and addressed all safety hazards that were identified.
