FAIRFIELD - Some Fairfield officials and residents are upset that the new owners of an 18th century home are planning to tear it down.

Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau says neighbors are outraged the owners of 696 Hillside Road want to demolish the structure.

Town records say the home was built in 1784.

Tetreau says the home is not in a historic district and is not listed by the state as a historic home.

He says because of that, not much can be done to stop the demolition.

Tetreau says he hopes the owners will have a change of heart.
