An Orange County man shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide, State Police said.

Both Joseph M. Oliva, 58, and his wife, Sandra Oliva, 54, were dead when responding troopers arrived at their Cornwall home on Saturday.

It was not immediately clear how long Joseph and Sandra Oliva had been dead when police found them. No one else was home at the time, and police didn't say how they were alerted to the incident or when they arrived at the house.

State Police have sealed the home off as a crime scene, and an autopsy by the Orange County medical examiner is scheduled for late Saturday.
