Crews clean up debris after Jerome Ave. collapse

THE BRONX - Crews are working to clear debris left from a partial roof collapse yesterday on Jerome Avenue.

The entire top tier and awning of a beauty supply store, located at 2614 Jerome Ave., crashed down onto the sidewalk at around 1:30 p.m.

Firefighters quickly cleared out all neighboring businesses, and shut off gas and electricity to the entire strip mall in case of any subsequent collapse.

Demolition crews say they will need to completely knock down the damaged area so that the stores can begin to rebuild. They spent the day eliminating areas deemed unsafe by the Department of Buildings.

Workers say any danger is gone and the sidewalk will soon be opened to the public.
