TOMS RIVER - Toms River is sending a Little League team to the Northeast Regionals in Connecticut this week.

The contest will be particularly memorable for Assistant Coach Ray Roncin. His daughter Kayla will start at first base.

Ray Roncin says he’s enjoying these last moments as her coach since he knows his daughter will soon switch to playing softball.

"It's still pretty cool because most teams will think, 'oh, you got a girl? You guys are probably pretty bad,” said teammate Phill Antonio. “Then she goes out there, she proves that she's good, and we prove that we're good. Then we come out on top."

Kayla and her dad hope to be in Williamsport  for the Little League World Series in the coming weeks.
