GOSHEN - An Ossining man accused of killing a couple in a hit-and-run crash on the New York State Thruway faced a judge this morning.

Luis Munoz, 24, was allegedly drunk behind the wheel in June when he crashed into a young couple from Long Island along the Thruway in Woodbury.

Officials say Munoz was arguing with his girlfriend and trying to call her on his cellphone, when he allegedly hit the pair who were pulled over on a motorcycle. Munoz then left the accident scene and another motorist called 911. A search turned up Munoz eight hours later.

Munoz is charged with two counts each of aggravated vehicular homicide and first- and second-degree manslaughter, as well as a single DWI count.

There were discussions of a plea deal at today's hearing. Munoz could face six to 18 years in prison, according to the mother of one of the victims.

He is due back in court on Thursday.
