A downed utility pole on Route 9W in the Town of Newburgh will likely lead to traffic delays Friday morning, authorities said.

About a mile of the road's northbound lane has been closed since around 4 a.m. when the pole fell across the road, closing a stretch of the thoroughfare between Oak Street and Old Post Road, a Town of Newburgh police dispatcher said. The dispatcher didn't have any information on when the road will be cleared or current traffic conditions.

I-84 traffic flowing off the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge is also being affected by the closure, authorities said.

Commuters are advised to use a detour in the meantime, by making a left on to Carter Avenue, a left on to Lattintown Road, a right onto Bingham Road, and a right on to Conway Road, which will eventually merge with 9W.
