Department of Transportation installs new parking meters along Webster Avenue in Claremont
CLAREMONT - New parking rules are in effect for one side of Webster Avenue in Claremont.
The new signs were installed last week on a four-block stretch between 168th Street and Claremont Parkway. Drivers will have to pay 25 cents for 15 minutes to park, and have to move after one hour.
Claremont residents say it's unfair to put up meters in a residential area.
The Department of Transportation says it was done along a commercial stretch for the businesses to increase turnover and the likelihood of finding an open spot. It also is aimed at reducing double parking, a primary cause of congestion on the corridor.
Businesses however say the new changes are not helping, and they are losing customers because they can't park their cars.
