Driver kicks Isaac E. Young Middle School kids off bus in New Rochelle
NEW ROCHELLE - Some kids from the Isaac E. Young Middle School kids in New Rochelle were kicked off their bus ride home yesterday for alleged bad behavior.
About 15 students from Isaac E. Young Middle school were told to walk home after a Liberty Lines bus driver complained of their rowdy behavior. The driver claims the kids were jumping up and down, swinging on poles, and making noise until they were kicked off at Main Street and the Post Road.
Some parents are outraged and say it wasn't safe for the kids to walk over a mile. They also say the driver used an expletive when kicking the kids off.
The assistant superintendent of the district told News 12 the students were spoken to about proper bus behavior and a monitor has been placed on the bus going forward. The driver will receive additional training on how to respond to rowdy behavior.
A spokesman for Liberty Lines say the driver has been with the company for many years and has a good safety record. They also say they think he did the right thing. The company will conduct an internal investigation, including an analysis of the bus’ surveillance camera video.
Liberty Line buses in New Rochelle are contracted through Westchester County.
