Jenny Packham packs a picnic at New York Fashion Week
Brit designer Jenny Packham envisioned the world’s fanciest picnic (maybe even a royal picnic) when it came to designing her spring 2014 collection. Packham, who famously dresses the Middleton family, Kate included, was inspired by the film “Picnic at Hanging Rock,” which is set in the Edwardian era. She took the luxe details, embellishments and materials and interpreted them in '70s style.
It was a beautiful billow-fest with models hair teased into high, fluffy curls and the airy, light dresses wafting as they walked. There were off-color (and we mean this in a good way) long sleeve, silky, short smocks -- one in, acid green, that featured subtle silver striping. High-waisted, wide-legged pants were elegant and cool, a drop waist floral dress pure '70s.
A viney pattern worked into a windowpane check, could have been lifted from a picnic blanket. It was the same one that backed the runway.
An added touch of luxury and interest? Floral clutches that looked like bouquets of peonies.
